Texas State Electrician Continuing Educational Requirements
- Journeyman Electrician
- Master Electrician
- Journeyman Sign Electrician
- Master Sign Electrician
- Residential Electrician
- Maintenance Electrician
As per Title 8, Occupations Code, Chapter 1305, Section 168, electricians must complete 4 hours of TDLR-approved continuing education (CE) courses during the term of their current license. The required hours must cover the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Texas state electrician laws and rules. These courses may be taken in Internet or traditional classroom formats.
Those who are not required to take continuing education hours in order to renew their licenses are Apprentice Electricians, Electrical Contractors, and Electrical Sign Contractors. Note: Apprentice electricians who are not enrolled in a Department of Labor approved apprenticeship program are required to take 4 hours of Continuing Education each year in order to renew their licenses.
